How To Prepare The Garden For Storms

Hello Friends,

A few housekeeping items to share with you. Special Occasion Bouquets will not be available July 29th.

I started to write garden articles for our local newspaper. Each month going forward I will share the article that I write for the newspaper here on our webpage. The tips I have learned from gardeners has helped me so much, I hope to pass that on.

How To Prepare The Garden For Storms

By Carla TePaske of Cameron WI ~ The Little Garden That Could

Strong storms at this time of year can cause damage to our gardens. Use the following tips to prepare your garden for seasonal storms.

If you have hanging plants or baskets take them down. They could flip in the wind and crash to the ground.

Reinforce your garden fixtures. This includes the stakes you use for taller plants.

Add a layer of mulch around plants to help during heavy rain. The mulch will protect the soil from washing away.

A few jobs to do in July..

Keep weeding!

Continue to deadhead flowers as they go over. This will result in a second flowering.

Tie in or support tall plants such as tomatoes.

But though an old man, I am but a young gardener.”

We still have openings to sign up for Flower Subscriptions. They make a great gift and bring many smiles. The subscription makes a fantastic birthday gift. It is also a fun way to say Merry Christmas or Happy Valentine’s Day, your loved one will receive a lovely post card sharing about the subscription and then will be so surprised when the subscription starts, because life is busy and we forget about subscriptions, then knock, knock a beautiful bouquet arrives.

Our Special Occasion Bouquets will be available May thru September.

The Flower Shack will also be open this season. Look for our sign on Main Street of Cameron and you will know we are open at the Flower Shack. We also post the days flowers are available at the Flower Shack on Instagram.

Sharing a note we received from a customer…

As I move out of the neighborhood, I have to say thank you for how much joy your flowers have brought our family. The first bouquet of the year always is something we celebrate every year. On my darkest days your flowers bring sunshine into my home. So many celebrations have been greeted with a bundle of your flowers.
